Broken Tooth or Cracked Tooth

Whether a tooth was broken from trauma to the face, or from biting into a hard piece of food, it may be necessary to contact your Emergency Dentist in Gainesville for treatment. The dentist can restore a damaged tooth, depending on the severity, with procedures like filling, bonding, dental cap or dental crown.

First. Ensure you treat any other injuries related to the chip. A chipped tooth may be more likely to occur on a tooth where dental work previously was done, or where there is dental decay. If the injury was due to trauma, first ensure there is no injury that requires other medical attention. For serious injuries, call 911 or go immediately to the local emergency room.

Second. Stop any bleeding with gauze. You can rinse out your mouth with warm water or warm saltwater. Depending on the severity of the injury, you may want to take some over-the-counter medication to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

Third. Recover any loose tooth fragments and store in milk or water. We may need to use the fragments while repairing the tooth, or use it as a reference for shape or color while restoring your smile.

Finally. Contact Cruz Davis Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. As an emergency dentist, Dr. Cruz-Davis and team will be available to treat your injury and advise on how to proceed with your dental care.

Dental Abscess

Abscess are infections within the tooth and need to be treated as soon as possible. If you notice severe swelling around your tooth, call asap.

Dental Trauma

Trauma includes a broken, chipped or fractured tooth (teeth). Depending on the severity of the damage, the tooth can be repaired.

Missing Crowns

Accidents happen and crowns go missing. When it does, let us know and our team will begin the process of creating you a replacement.

Periodontal Abscess

Bacteria can become enclosed in a periodontal pocket and the area will fill with pus, becoming swollen and painful. All periodontal therapy starts with the evaluation of your oral hygiene techniques and instruction for improving them, followed by the mechanical removal of plaque and any calcified deposits (tartar or calculus) that are present on the root surfaces. This is accomplished with a cleaning technique known as scaling, root planing or debridement using hand instruments and/or ultrasonic (high frequency vibrational) instruments.

Locally applied antimicrobial products or antibiotics might also be recommended during various parts of periodontal treatment to assist in healing and pocket-depth reduction, hopefully eliminating the need for periodontal surgery. Sometimes surgical procedures may be necessary to remove the deep pockets that form between inflamed gum tissue and teeth. There are many different types of surgery to handle a variety of problems. And many times, combinations of procedures are used to attempt to reduce the number of surgeries as well as the cost of treatment.

Root Canal Therapy (RCT) / Endodontic Treatment

Root Canal Treatment or Root Canal Therapy is an endodontic treatment consisting of the removal of infected or necrotic tissue (pulp/nerve) from within the tooth's root, then cleaning and shaping the space and filling it with gutta-percha, thus sealing off the root canal to avoid being populated by bacteria. Patients typically need a root canal when there is inflammation or infection in the roots of a tooth. When a tooth is cracked or has a deep cavity, bacteria can enter the pulp tissue and germs can cause an infection inside the tooth. If left untreated, an abscess may form. If the infected tissue is not removed, pain and swelling can result. Root canal treatment is an often straightforward procedure to relieve dental pain and to save your teeth.

Teledentistry / Telehealth

Telehealth or telemedicine allows patients to remain at home, or anywhere else, while Dr. Cruz-Davis uses telecommunication to screen patients and administer dental care management.
